The Fishelov's came to visit, and we all had our spring break from schools, so we all headed south to worm up in Washington. It was great.
After our music classes on Saturday we took off and arrived at the hotel at night.
We stayed in
Alexcandria, which is a lovely little town just outside of Washington DC.
On Sunday we went to the National Mall and visited the Natural History museum and saw the White House, the Capitol and Washington monument.

On Monday we return to the Mall to see the
Air and Space museum and the
Renwick Gallery.

On Tuesday we visited the
Mount Vernon (George Washington's mansion). We learned a lot about the man and the period.
For lunch we stopped at the
Taverna Cretekou - a great Greek restaurant, and for dessert we had crepes at
Fontaine - one of the best crepes we eat.

We left Washington on Wednesday morning, and on our way back we made a nice stop at
Fort McHenry, where in 1814 the British tried to reoccupy Baltimore, but failed. Francis Scott Key, a young poet-lawyer, witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry while under British guard on an American truce ship in the Patapsco River, and wrote a poem called "The Star-Spangled Banner", which later became the American national anthem. We had a great time, but we didn't have enough - we will be back !!
